Today Mrs. Holiman came to visit us and began a five week study of farming. We learned about cows and goats-two animals that are similar. Both are ruminants, which we learned are animals that chew their food, swallow it and then regurgitate their cud and chew it again. They also do not have top teeth. We learned that a cow has an udder and four teats, while a goat has an udder but only two teats. We have been asked to remember three types of cows; Holstein, Jersey and the Black Angus. The Holstein gives a lot of milk. The Jersey gives creamy milk and the Black Angus gives meat because it doesn’t make enough milk to share. We made 2 kinds of butter, cinnamon and plain, then we voted. Most of us liked the cinnamon one better. We are very excited for Mrs. Holiman to come back next week!
